Windows 10 has a neat ‘slide to shut down’ function that lets you turn off your computer just by swiping down on your screen. It’s quicker than digging through your Start menu and finally gives you a reason to use your touchscreen.
Here’s how you can set it up:
- Right-click your desktop and select New > Shortcut
- In the location text field, paste this: %windir%\System32\SlideToShutDown.exe
- Click Next and then name your shortcut.
And you’re done! You can now double-click the icon to invoke the slide to shut down function and then swipe down on your screen to quickly turn off your PC.
If you’d like to customize your icon, you can find one on sites like IconArchive.
- Download the .ico file to a location you can easily find later (such as your Downloads folder)
- Right-click your shut down shortcut and click Properties
- Click Change icon… in the Properties window and navigate to the folder where you downloaded your new icon.
- Select it and you’re good to go.
