Skype for iOS picks up 3D Touch support, video filters in latest update

Microsoft released an update for its Skype for iOS app which brings with it some noteworthy features and support for Apple’s latest smartphones.
The update, which brings the app’s version to 6.5, is built for both the iPhone and iPad. With the update, Microsoft is officially adding support for 3D Touch on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, while also adding new video filters to make those video calls a bit more entertaining.
The video filters are available both for the iPhone and iPad version of the app, and it’s a simple tap away from accessing a variety of different options:
“Get started by tapping the filter wand at the bottom left of the video message window. Choose a filter to see it in action then, when you’re ready, hit the record button. Add balloons to your video message to celebrate any occasion. If you’re feeling goofy, change the appearance of your face to make it look rounder or longer – we love this one! Or, if you’re sending a video message showing off your Halloween costume, add some ghosts or use the negative filter to set a spooky mood.”
As far as 3D Touch is concerned, users will be able to hard press on the Skype icon on their iPhone and access quick actions, including the Dialpad, start a new chat, or do a search. On top of that, Skype users will be able to use Peek and Pop. With Peek, users can hard press on a conversation thread to see the latest instant message, or even sneak a peek of the live video while you’re on a call. As for Pop, you’ll be able to pop in information within a chat to see their location, a photo, or a URL.
The update also includes the ability to hide contacts from the Recent lists with just a swipe, an easier way to share Skype contacts and the ability to completely delete a chat thread’s history.
The new update for Skype, for both iPhone and iPad, is available now. You can find a link to each below.
